Participation in ILO VZF Project on “Developing Occupational Safety and Health Regulations in Myanmar”, Sep – Nov 2020
The International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) has successfully been awarded a proposal to develop an information paper to develop regulatory framework in Myanmar. In June 2020, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Vision Zero Fund (VZF) Liaison Office called for an expression of interest from a suitably qualified international consultant to deliver an information paper. This will be used to inform the drafting of OSH regulations and implementation frameworks in the areas of (a) OSH Committees, (b) OSH Personnel (Safety Officers) and (c) Training and Accreditation Framework for OSH for Myanmar. It will involve desktop review and organizing discussions about international labour standards, international experience of regulatory and implementation frameworks, Myanmar’s experience on OSH with key stakeholders. The project will take place from Sep 2020 to Nov 2020. It will be co-led by Kevin Myers (IALI President) and Ho Siong Hin (IALI Secretary General).
ILO – IALI webinar on “The Role of Action of Labour Inspection Systems in the Face of Covid-19 Pandemic, 16 Jun 2020
Given the closer working relationship between IALI and ILO, both organizations have worked together to organise a webinar on 16 Jun 2020. The objective is to foster exchange on the challenges to the effective undertaking of labour inspection functions during the COVID-19 pandemic, and discuss strategies undertaken by labour inspectorates. This webinar will involve labour inspectorates’ representatives from different countries, specialized regional platforms, other government agencies, ILO specialists, and workers’ and employers’ organizations. Siong Hin presented in English while Jean Parrat presented in French. The webinar was an important platform to provide a “global view of the pandemic from a labour inspection perspective”. At the time of broadcast, the opening session in English was viewed by over 200 participants from around the world.
International ORP Foundation webinar on “Vision Zero in Times of Covid-19, 16 Jun 2020
ORP International Foundation together with the Global Vision Zero Business Council organised a webinar on “Vision Zero in times of Covid-19” with various partners in the Asia Pacific on 16 June 2020. The theme of the webinar focused on safe return to work and ensuring higher levels of safety, health and wellbeing in a post-Covid-19 world. It discussed how to develop a new, caring prevention culture at work and how to protect the most vulnerable groups of employees. Mr Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, President, International ORP Foundation (former Secretary- General of the International Social Security Association), has invited Er. Ho Siong Hin (IALI Secretary General) to share his views as an OSH expert on “how to support and sustain a caring prevention culture”. The webinar was well-received by OSH professionals and labour inspectors, who gained insights on how their counterparts were managing the crisis. As of 19 June 2020, more than 220 participants registered online for the event, mainly from Asia, but also from Europe, Africa and Latin America.
